Senators GM plans contract offer to the Hamburglar, Andrew Hammond
For fans who didn't get enough of Senators goalie Andrew Hammond this year, do not fear: Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray confirmed to reporters in an end-of-season press conference Wednesday that he will extend a contract offer to the Hamburglar over the summer.
The 27-year-old is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he changed his prospects for next season drastically thanks to his performance in the final six weeks of the year.
Hammond became a sensation this season after stepping in as a last-gasp attempt in net for the Senators when the Senators top two goalies went down with injury. Hammond subsequently led Ottawa on a 20-1-2 run to make the playoffs while posting a .941 save percentage and a 1.79 goals-against average.
The rookie did not perform quite as well in the playoffs, as he lost his starting job after Ottawa fell into a 2-0 series deficit following the first two games of their first-round series against the Canadiens. Hammond stopped 74 of the 81 shots he saw in those two games.
