Sidney Crosby has been diagnosed with another concussion
The Pittsburgh Penguins broke some terrible news to hockey fans on Monday when they announced that captain Sidney Crosby had been diagnosed with a concussion.
According to Penguins coach Mike Sullivan, Crosby suffered the injury during Friday's team practice. Crosby then sat out Saturday's preseason game against Columbus because he wasn't feeling well and underwent concussion testing on Monday. There's currently no timetable for the captain's return.
The news is incredibly unfortunate for Crosby, the Penguins and hockey fans across the world. Not only is the 29-year-old arguably the best hockey player on earth, he also has a history of head injuries. Crosby missed significant chunks of time in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 due to lingering concussion effects.
Hopefully Crosby has a speedy and full recovery this time around, but it's certainly concerning and unsettling to see the talented superstar's brain take so much punishment.
Pittsburgh will open up its season (and raise a Stanley Cup banner to the rafters) on Thursday.
