Sidney Crosby nearly chopped an opponent's finger off with slash

It's been a bad week for opponents of Sidney Crosby.

First, he speared Buffalo's Ryan O'Reilly right in the ol' testicles, then he posterized a bunch of Sabres players with one of the best goals this year, and now...well, now he's nearly chopping fingers off.

That's not hyperbole, either, as Crosby nearly severed the fingertip of Ottawa's Marc Methot with a slash to the hand on Thursday night. The play itself looked harmless enough -- Crosby delivered a whack to the stick/hands at the blue line as Methot dumped the puck into the zone. It's a play you see on a nightly basis.

But Crosby used two hands for a little extra "oomph" and ended up catching Methot on an unprotected portion of his finger, and the result was not pretty. I repeat, it was NOT pretty.

Methot pulled off his glove and his finger tip of his left pinky finger was basically a dangling, bloody mess. There's full video and it's extremely graphic and not for the faint of heart, but you can see it here if you wish.

After the game, Senators coach Guy Boucher offered a very honest and forthright assessment of Methot's injury.

"His finger is destroyed. It's shattered and he's out for weeks," he said, via CBC.

Yikes.
