St. Louis Blues Morning Links: Blues Luck Out In Big D

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:44 p.m. ET

Good morning Blues fans! The team sure knows how to test our patience, don’t they? An important two points were gained, but they can’t make things easy.

The St. Louis Blues are a very taxing team these days. Win or lose, you just feel drained afterward on most nights.

That was definitely the case after facing the Dallas Stars again. The Blues now have the edge over Dallas this season, two games to one after a 3-2 win in OT.

The Blues have had to go to overtime in both victories. They got spanked 6-2 in their one loss.

Last night’s win was a bit of luck, which is something the Blues have not had all the time. On the surface, St. Louis probably had no business winning that game.

For the second night in a row, the Blues were badly outshot. Additionally, for the second night in a row, the Blues allowed well over 30 shots against.

Their goaltender bailed them out again. It’s good to have dependable goaltending but you run the risk of running them both into the ground, either physically or mentally.

Admittedly, Jake Allen did not cover himself in glory on Dallas’ first goal. He cheated a little bit and got caught, letting a routine shot from the boards sneak in past him.

After that though, the Snake got pelted and he stood the test. There was not much he could do about Dallas’ other goal since there were three Blues around the crease and only Jason Spezza managed to pounce on the rebound.

Still, Allen made 36 saves in a winning effort. He may not be the superstar stud that the vocal minority want, but he’s getting the job done.

Also impressive was David Perron‘s effort in overtime. Thank goodness I posted our seventh day of Bluesmas well before the game since Perron now has eight goals.

Jaden Schwartz had a heck of a play to set it all up, but Perron’s finnish was a beauty. Turning that tightly is difficult on the forehand, but to keep the puck on the backhand and still tuck it inside the post was skill.

Even with the extra point gained, it just feels like the Blues are going to overtime too much. St. Louis has had four overtime games in December alone.

It is part of the sport, but it just feels like many of these games could have been done with in regulation. At least this game was a win, so it was worth it.

Here are your St. Louis Blues Morning Links to get your day started off right.

There actually are more people than you think that aren’t able to catch the games each night. So, for those people, I post the official game recaps as it comes with the highlights of each goal. The only downfall is they don’t include all the top saves for fans of goaltenders like myself. (NHL)

Sometimes it is fun to see how the other half lives. It is especially nice when your team got the win and you can see that other people react to their teams the way we do when the Blues lose. It is though another world opens up. With that in mind, the Dallas Stars might have deserved to win but as Clint Eastwood said, deserve’s got nothing to do with it. (Black Out Dallas)

Two of the big players from last night, as mentioned above, were Perron and Allen. Each one was very pleased with the entire team’s effort to battle through and get the extra point in the end. (Blues)

The Blues make roster changes a bit more than some of us would like or at least not the ones we would like. They were forced into one last night due to illness. It took away some of the flexibility to make necessary changes based purely on certain player’s play against Edmonton. (STLToday)

Speaking of forced roster moves, it is rare to see one goaltender changed once a game begins. When the Red Wings faced the Lightning, both teams had to make net changes due to injuries in game. (ESPN)

It would take something spectacular to get Vladimir Tarasenko to the top of the board now, but voting is still open for some time. Perhaps Blues fans can get the vote out and take him from fifth to first. (NHL)

Have a great day Blues fans!
