St. Louis Blues Morning Links: Blues vs. Blueshirts

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Good morning Blues fans! It’s a quick rematch with the New York Rangers. The Blues are looking to stay a little healthier than the last meeting.

The St. Louis Blues did not have to wait very long for a rematch with the New York Rangers. Just a little over two weeks ago, the Blues took down the Rangers but it took quite the toll.

St. Louis was without the services of three players during and shortly after that contest. Jori Lehtera, Carl Gunnarsson and Kyle Brodziak were all taken out at various stages of the first contest.

The Blues are hoping to, at the very least, come out of this game a little healthier. You are going to have bumps and bruises after every contest, but losing that many players in one game was extremely bad luck.

Unfortunately, the Blues seem to be getting quite a bit of that. After losing a lot of games to injury last season, St. Louis is picking right back up this year.

Robert Bortuzzo is currently out and will likely be out most of, if not the entire week. Fortunately, Bortuzzo is not a constant in the lineup, so the Blues will not be shorthanded on the back line.

Health is going to be key for the Blues going forward since they are having problems with scoring even with the full lineup. Though we all want certain names to get their shot, the Blues don’t have the kind of depth they did a season ago.

Still, the Blues are pretty healthy right now and are looking for a repeat performance. St. Louis is going to have to get the scoring started quickly for that to happen.

Yesterday’s link’s page had a story about the emotional return of Craig Anderson to Ottawa after his wife’s cancer treatment.  The St. Louis Blues were inspired by the story of one of their own as the NHL likes to think of itself as a family.  (Post-Dispatch)

The Blues defense is going to be tested against the Rangers.  We already saw their potential.  The Blues won 3-2 but were bailed out by Carter Hutton.  Since then, the Rangers have scored the most goals in the league.  (Blueshirt Banter)

Win or lose (hopefully win), tonight will be a special night for Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.  He’s going to play in his 1000th NHL game against the Rangers.  (NHL)

The Chicago Wolves are still struggling to get their wheels going, but they took some very positive steps this past week.  One of the interesting things has been the revival of Magnus Paajarvi in the AHL.  (Wolves)

Ending things on a lighter note, the NHL and many of its players had fun celebrating Halloween last night.  The league compiled some of the best costumes. (NHL)
