St. Louis Blues Social Media Roundup: Colton Parayko Is Popular

Hello Tweeters and Facebookites. With the start of the World Cup of Hockey, there have been lots of interesting things shared. One thing is for sure, St. Louis Blues fans have taken a shine to Colton Parayko.

The World Cup of Hockey began on Saturday and it was a mixed bag as far as the St. Louis Blues players were concerned. It was much of the same with those involved on Sunday.

Team North America took on Team Finland and Team Sweden faced Team Russia. Colton Parayko, Jori Lehtera and Vladimir Tarasenko were all on the ice.

Tarasenko started the day as his team took on a Patrik Berglund-less Sweden side. Blues fans were hopeful of a show.

They were not rewarded. Russia fell by the score of 2-1 and their lone goal came from Alex Ovechkin with about 33 seconds left in the game.

The disappointing thing was how flat Russia’s offense looked. Tarasenko logged a little over 15 minutes on the ice and played with superstars like Pavel Datsyuk, Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin.

However, no matter the combination, the Russians appeared disinterested at times. They looked as though the game was going to just come to them.

Some of them even approached the game as though it was an exhibition. It was not the prettiest of
things to watch as they would stickhandle too long or pass it off instead of shooting.

Perhaps it was coaching. Oleg Znarok barely used Tarasenko on the powerplay and did not seem to have the team ready to go against a stout Sweden team.

On the flip side, Team North America and Colton Parayko were more than ready to go.

Things did not go as smoothly for either Parayko or Jori Lehtera once the puck was dropped.

Fortunately, just like the potential injury to Alex Pietrangelo the day prior, it amounted to nothing. Lehtera would cost his team though, as he took a high sticking penalty that led to the first goal of the game for Team North America.

Parayko would also have the last laugh. He ended up with two assists on the night and his team won 4-1.

His first assist, seen above, was quite the talking point too.

In the end, fans were more than happy to vocalize what many already knew. The Blues have a special player in Parayko.

That last tweet is particularly interesting, even though it has less to do with the game.

Parayko is indeed going to demand a large sum. He’s a free agent following this season and if the Blues want to avoid arbitration, they will pay.

Parayko’s next deal is also another reason they won’t be able to afford Kevin Shattenkirk. Even if they could, you don’t want four of your top six paid players on the blueline.

Fans are still hoping a deal can be made to get some return for the former All-Star.

Time will tell on that one. The Blues have proven they will let a player walk if they think it benefits them more to retain the man past the deadline.

One thing is for sure, the Blues will miss his powerplay production when gone. Or perhaps not if Parayko can fine tune his own offensive game.

Lastly, this one doesn’t have much to do with anything, but it was too good not to share.
