Steven Stamkos snipes from ridiculous angle to tie game in final seconds
It looked like the Tampa Bay Lightning were going to drop this year's first "Battle of Florida" to the Panthers on Tuesday night, but then Steven Stamkos reminded us all that he is quite good at hockey.
With the Lightning trailing 3-2 in the waning seconds of third period, Stamkos set up just in front of the goal line below the face-off circle and received a pass from Victor Hedman. Somehow, despite the terrible angle on net, Stamkos one-timed the pass and managed to snipe the game-tying goal, tucking it over the shoulder of Panthers goalie James Reimer and into the top of the net.
It was a gorgeous, clutch goal that took the Panthers by surprise and pulled the game even with just over five ticks left in regulation. The Lightning would ultimately go on to win in a shootout, improving to 3-0 and taking the first interstate matchup of the year.
