Tampa Bay Lightning F Jonathan Drouin Gets Sweet Vengeance With Goal (Video)
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin tasted sweet vengeance by scoring a goal after being nailed in the face by the stick of Evgeni Malkin.
The Tampa Bay Lightning found themselves in a tough situation in the first period against the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Lightning had been outshot 13-3 for a good portion of the first period while the Pens held a 1-0 lead.
Needless to say, things did not look good for the ailing Tampa Bay Lightning team. Fortunately, things were about to turn around in a rather huge way for the Bolts.
It was just past the 16-minute mark in the period and the Lightning were staring down the very real possibility of heading into the first intermission trailing 1-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins. As you can imagine, this is not something the Lightning, or their fans for that matter, wanted to see happen.

The question was, what could the team do about it with so little time left on the clock? Little did they know, the answer was about to smack them right in the face…literally.
The Penguins were attempting to play the puck in the Lightning’s zone. Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin attempted to take a shot, but was quickly interrupted by Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin. Unfortunately, Malkin lost his balance and began tumbling to the ice.
The bad news for Drouin is Malkin completely lost all knowledge of how to control his stick as it went high and absolutely nailed Jonathan Drouin in the face. Before anyone had any idea what happened, the blood started to flow from the left side of Drouin’s face.
Needless to say, Malkin found himself with a one-way ticket to the sin bin for High Sticking. Considering there was blood involved, Malkin would have four minutes to get comfortable. This was the spark the Tampa Bay Lightning had been so desperately waiting for.
Drouin quickly made his way to the bench so he could be attended to by Lightning Head Athletic Trainer Tom Mulligan. It was only a matter of moments before Drouin was back on the ice and ready to get back to business. Little did we know, things were about to get really interesting on the ice.
Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Jason Garrison would fight for puck possession in the Lightning zone. Once he had control of the puck, he would send it forward as Jonathan Drouin sped down the middle of the ice in pursuit of the puck.
Drouin would blast past Penguins defenseman Ian Cole and send the puck flying past Penguins netminder Matt Murray to tie things up for the Tampa Bay Lightning. This would serve as Jonathan Drouin’s 5th goal of the season.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have been desperately searching for the spark they need in order to ignite the fire deep within their souls. Could this be the catalyst the Lightning need in order to get back on the right track? Well…Lightning fans will have to keep watching and find out.
There is a lot of hockey left to play, and at this point it is anyone’s game. If the Tampa Bay Lightning wants to emerge victoriously, they are going to have to continue to play the way they did in the final minutes of the first period. If they can accomplish this, they may just send the Penguins home with their tails between their legs.
