Tampa Bay Lightning G Ben Bishop Absolutely Robs Kyle Okposo (Video)

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop surely earned himself a spot in tonight’s highlight reel after making an outstanding save against Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo.

The Tampa Bay Lightning faced many challenges making their way into the KeyBank Center tonight to take on the Buffalo Sabres in their first meeting of the 2016-17 season. The biggest of those challenges was heading into tonight’s contest without the assistance of Lightning captain Steven Stamkos.

It was announced earlier today that the 26-year-old Lightning captain would be forced to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. This injury will cost Stamkos to miss a minimum of four months away from the ice.

While this is definitely disappointing news for the Lightning, the show must go on. The Lightning have a job to do tonight, and through two periods of play, the Bolts have been on top of their game, leading the Sabres 2-1. Of course, had it not been for the heroics of one particular player, we could be looking at a difference scenario.

Allow us to set the scene for you. The Tampa Bay Lightning found themselves with a 1-0 lead over the Buffalo Sabres with just over three minutes gone in the second period of play. The Sabres would fight to get the puck into the offensive zone. Unfortunately for them, they would have to dump the puck to make forward progress.

As usual, Lightning netminder Ben Bishop would come out of the crease and behind the net in order to play the puck forward. Unfortunately for Bishop, the puck would not reach its intended target. Instead, the puck would be picked off by Sabres forward Kyle Okposo.

Wasting no time, Okposo would take a shot on the wide open net. This is where things started to get really interesting for Tampa Bay Lightning fans.

With what looked like meta human, Flash-like powers, Ben Bishop would speed his way back to the front of the net and snatch the puck out of the air with his glove.

Judging by the looks of things, Ben Bishop had better watch out for sirens and flashing lights because he absolutely robbed Kyle Okposo of a goal that could’ve tied things up for the Buffalo Sabres.

There is still plenty of hockey left to play between these two Atlantic Division teams. If the Tampa Bay Lightning want to leave Buffalo with two points, they are going to have to continue to put pressure on the Sabres defense and Ben Bishop will have to continue to be, well…Ben Bishop.
