The Edmonton Oilers' new mascot is here to haunt your nightmares
If watching the Edmonton Oilers hasn't been horrifying enough for fans over the past handful of years, the team just unveiled a new mascot this week that should do the trick.
The Oilers introduced Hunter, their first-ever mascot, on Monday. If you like creepy-as-hell cats that look like they're going to eat your soul and wash it down with a nice tall glass of your blood, you're in for a treat.
Hunter is a Canadian Lynx named as a tribute to "Wild Bill" Hunter, the original owner of the Edmonton Oilers who founded the team in 1972.
"The Oilers have a long history in our community and have always been extremely passionate about our outstanding fan base and community right here in Oil Country. Introducing Hunter as the Oilers official mascot is an opportunity to strengthen our connection in the community," said Stew MacDonald, CCO of Oilers Entertainment Group, in a statement. "Hunter is passionate, energetic, approachable and loves the Oilers, just like our fans and we're excited for everyone to meet our newest team member."
The team said that Hunter will be a prominent figure in the community and on game nights, where he'll add a "unique element to fans' experience while especially enhancing youth's experience." By that, we can only assume that he'll rob children of their remaining innocence and haunt their nightmares forever. What a fun night at the arena.
