Vancouver Canucks Hit Rock Bottom In Ugly Loss to Toronto

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Vancouver Canucks had a chance to end a miserable losing streak, but they just embarrassed themselves more.

When the Vancouver Canucks lost 6-1 to the Dallas Stars on March 7, 2014, Kevin Bieksa said the following:

“If this isn’t rock bottom, I don’t know what is.”

If Bieksa doesn’t mind, I’m going to steal a quote from him. After the Canucks 6-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, if this isn’t rock bottom, what is?

The Canucks lost their eighth-straight game to the lowly Leafs. If there was any bright side, this team scored three goals. But when you still lose by three, that’s nothing to smile about at all.

    Recap:

Nazem Kadri and Tyler Bozak scored the first two goals of the game, but Derek Dorsett answered back at 16:44 to trim the lead in half after 20 minutes. Bozak and Henrik Sedin exchanged goals in the second.

The Leafs would outscore the Canucks 3-1 in the final frame to win 6-3. But the score is not the main issue.

    Things Get Nasty

Daniel Sedin was the victim of an ugly hit from Nazem Kadri in the second:

Then in the third period, Matt Martin went after rookie Troy Stecher. Ryan Miller stood up for his teammate which led to an all-out team brawl.

He and Frederik Andersen received ejections for their brawl.

It was just an ugly all-around game for the Canucks. Losing to one of the league’s worst teams like this is absolutely inexcusable. There’s just nothing positive coming out of this team right now.

Miller is a shell of his former self, and he proved it tonight. The Canucks defence got off to a hot start, but was miserable in this one. Like I said earlier, there’s no celebrating three goals in an embarrassment like this.

But those three goals might be the most positive takeaway for the Vancouver Canucks during an eight-game losing streak. And again, if this isn’t rock bottom, I don’t know what is.
