Vancouver Canucks Sweep Season Series with Lightning
After shocking the Bolts in Tampa Bay, the Vancouver Canucks beat the Lightning in Vancouver for the first time since Feb. 2009.
Last week, the Vancouver Canucks stole a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Lightning outshot the Canucks 41-30 in that game. Still, Jack Skille and Jayson Megna scored two goals apiece to carry Vancouver to an unlikely victory.
After such a disappointing outing at home, we expected the Bolts to come out strong in this game. However, the Canucks stuck to their gameplan for 60 minutes and managed to convert a third-period lead into a victory on Mattias Ohlund night!
Final Score:
1 | 2 | 3 | T | |
Canucks | 0 | 2 | 2 | 4 |
Lightning | 1 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
Canucks Standouts:
Bo Horvat
C, Vancouver Canucks
AHorvat’s game winner tied him with Daniel Sedin once again for the team lead in goals. He is currently on pace for 24 goals and 50 points. Not bad for a third line center….

Ryan Miller
G, Vancouver Canucks
AA solid bounce-back effort. Miller finished with 25 saves, and a .926 save percentage. He helped the Canucks put their last game well and truly behind them.
Luca Sbisa
D, Vancouver Canucks
A-Sbisa scored on his only shot of the game – his first of the season. Though Tanev returned this game Sbisa and Stecher were the Canucks’ best defense pairing.

Brandon Sutter
C, Vancouver Canucks
A-Sutter got the ball rolling for the Canucks with a wicked shot from the point. He won 72% of his faceoffs and played 19:52, the most of any Canucks forward.

Loui Eriksson
LW, Vancouver Canucks
B+Although Eriksson had an opening goal called back due to an offside, he still had one of his better games as a Canuck. He put up two assists, although one was an inadvertent tip which led to Horvat’s goal. Still, fans will take points wherever they can get them from Eriksson.
Markus Granlund
C, Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks return Sunday for an early afternoon game against John Tortorella’s Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus is turning heads this season: they have won eight games in a row and are near the top of the NHL standings.
The Vancouver Canucks will try to show up their former coach and upset one of the NHL’s most surprising teams. Until then, they will enjoy toinght’s solid victory.
