Vancouver Canucks rookie Jared McCann is just 19 years old, so it is not surprising that he still has a lot to learn about how to manage emotions in the NHL. His most recent lesson stems from a scoring drought dating back to a Nov. 25 game against the Minnesota Wild, when McCann last recorded a point with an assist in the 3-2 win.

McCann has not scored a goal since Nov. 16, which has been a tough pill to swallow for the center. who recorded five goals in the first nine games of his professional career. The stress is getting to McCann; the rookie admitted to the Vancouver Province that he's losing sleep over his scoring struggles.

McCann still has a lot of pressure on him as the Canucks have to decide soon whether to keep McCann in the line-up or loan him to Team Canada for the U20 World Junior Championships. If McCann is playing well, he'll stay with the Canucks. If not, it's off to the tournament for some more time against players his own age.

"There have definitely been some tough nights with sleeping and it’s never easy," McCann told the Province. "The compete in you comes out and you always want to win. But I’ve got to learn to let things go, sometimes. It’s a long season, but I’m a rookie and I can’t speak to how things go, but I’m learning how to get over games and improve my defensive habits.

"I know I can play better. I’m over-thinking things and always trying to be perfect. I’ve got to get back to the way I’ve always played."
