Kings’ defenseman Drew Doughty scored a goal in the 3rd period Friday against Team USA in a World Cup Exhibition Game. (Video below)

Although the game itself was meaningless, Kings’ fans were still treated to watching three of the team’s best players – Drew Doughty, Jonathan Quick and Jake Muzzin – in action when Team USA took on Team Canada in a World Cup Exhibition Match.

Early on in the game, Quick played at an elite level allowing Team USA to take a 2-0 lead into the 1st intermission. After making several huge saves in the first few minutes, Adam Gretz of ProHockeyTalk tweeted this:

On the other side of the ice, defensemen Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin were paired up on the top line for Team Canada.

The Kings’ two best defensemen were able to make their presence felt in the offensive zone, aiding on Patrice Bergeron‘s goal to get Team Canada on the board. Then, with just under 15 minutes left in the third, Doughty decided to remind everyone why he’s not only the best defenseman in Canada, but in all of the NHL.

Doughty receives a pass across the red line and carries the puck into the offensive zone before unleashing a laser beam past the stick of Ben Bishop, who replaced Jonathan Quick for the third period.

The goal brought Team Canada back within one goal but they were never able to even the score. Derek Stepan eventually put the game away with a goal to give the United States a 4-2 win.

Regardless of outcome, it was nice to get even the slightest glimpse of Kings hockey. Fans can tune in on Saturday September 10th at 7pm EST/4pm PST to watch Doughty, Muzzin and Quick in action again when Canada and USA face off in another exhibition match, this time in the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.
