Watch a Lightning defenseman play five finger fillet with trainer before a game

There's no better way to get ready for a hockey game than by exercising the very real possibility of smashing the bones in a friend's fingers into dust. At least that's the policy that Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman goes by.

Here's Hedman playing five finger fillet with a courageous trainer before the Lightning took down the Flames 6-3 on Wednesday in Calgary:

Is this practice for business or for pleasure? Hedman may use it to work on his focus and hand-eye. Then again, it could just be for fun. After all, it's not his own fingers on the line.

Either way, this appears to be a routine in which the trainer has full trust in Hedman. The tradition dates back to at least 2014, and the trainer appears to still have all of his fingers intact, so one would assume it's rarely gone wrong.
