The NHL is in the midst of the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, a movement involving all 30 NHL teams, and the Bruins hosted their Hockey Fights Cancer night on Wednesday when they took on the Philadelphia Flyers at the TD Garden.

As part of the festivities, the Bruins welcomed 5-year-old Max Mitchell, a child battling Ewing's sarcoma, to participate in an honorary puck drop with Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and Flyers captain Claude Giroux.

Little Max raced back to his dad immediately after dropping the puck, but Chara tracked him down so he could give Max the puck and a fist bump. The surprised youngster gazed up adoringly at Chara in this precious moment.

The night was a great way to give Max and his family something to celebrate ahead of a set of Thursday scans to determine whether the 5-year-old is cancer free, and it was a perfect reminder for the hockey community of what is truly important in this world.
