It took 64 games, but Connor McDavid finally has an NHL hat trick to his name.

McDavid broke a 10-game scoreless drought by opening the scoring against the Stars in Dallas in the first, and then added the Oilers’ fourth of the game in the second period. After the Stars scored twice to cut into the Edmonton lead, he capped his hat trick and the scoring in the 5-2 win.

Not only was it a milestone for the Oilers’ burgeoning star, but it was also something the Stars hadn't seen in a while:

With the trio of tallies, McDavid is up to eight on the season with 14 assists for 22 points in 19 games. He’s now tied with Winnipeg forward Mark Scheifele and Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov for tops in the NHL in overall scoring, and remains in a three-way tie for the league lead in assists.

He’s halfway to his rookie goal total, which took 45 games to accomplish, though a broken clavicle caused him to miss three months of the 2015-16 season.

The win helped Edmonton snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 9-8-1, good for second in the Pacific Division.
