Which NHL teams will be featured on Hockey Night In Canada on October 29?
This week, there will be two games featured on Saturday evening’s Hockey Night In Canada broadcast. After a memorable first two weeks of the show’s 2016-17 season, due to Halloween Weekend, just four teams will be on. Coverage begins at 6:30 PM EST.
At 7:00 PM EST, the Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the Montreal Canadiens in one of the NHL’s oldest rivalries. Both teams are Original Six teams and they’ve been doing battle since the early 20th century. In recent years, the Canadiens have owned the rivalry. However, thanks to a new crop of Maple Leafs players, perhaps Toronto is ready to turn the tables in the rivalry.
Auston Matthews and William Nylander will be getting their first look at the best goaltender in the world, Carey Price. Likewise, Price will be getting his first NHL game in against the extremely talented duo. While Matthews and Price are familiar with each other thanks to the World Cup of Hockey, they’ve never officially squared off.
Following that game, the Washington Capitals will be hosted by the Vancouver Canucks starting at 10:00 PM EST. Both teams enter the week among their division’s leaders. It should be a great matchup between two of the best teams in the league. Everyone expected the Caps to be among the best, but the Canucks have been a very pleasant surprise.
The two teams have had some impressive showdowns in recent years. Neither team has won a Stanley Cup, so they can relate to teach other. Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov lead the Caps while the Sedin Twins and Brandon Sutter lead the Canucks. This could be one of the last times the Sedins square off against Ovechkin.
