Ana Drev of Slovenia leads after 1st run of giant slalom

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:53 p.m. ET

FLACHAU, Austria (AP) Ana Drev of Slovenia held a narrow lead after the first run of a women's giant slalom World Cup race on Sunday.

Drev was .04 seconds ahead of Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany. Drev also led after the first run of the previous giant slalom race in Lienz, Austria, last month, but crashed in the second run. She has never placed in the top three on the World Cup circuit. Rebensburg was the first to start and Drev was ninth.

With the snowfall becoming heavier and visibility getting worse, late starters had little chance of threatening the leading times.

Eva-Maria Brem of Austria was third, overall World Cup leader Lara Gut of Switzerland was fourth and Lindsey Vonn of the United States 10th, 1.25 seconds behind.
