Fourcade, Makarainen, win biathlon pursuit races

OSTERSUND, Sweden (AP) Martin Fourcade held off his chasers to win a men's biathlon pursuit on Sunday, while Kaisa Makarainen earned a narrow victory in the women's race.

Fourcade started first after winning Saturday's sprint and overcame three missed targets to win in 31 minutes, 22.4 seconds. Arnd Peiffer of Germany was 35.1 seconds back in second, with Quentin Fillon Maillet of France 55.2 behind in third.

The women's race was closer, with Makarainen taking the lead on the last lap to win by 1.9 seconds ahead of Dorothea Wierer of Italy. Franziska Hildebrand of Germany was third, 3.3 seconds back.

Gabriela Soukalova, who won Saturday's sprint, finished fifth.
