Katie Ledecky wins 800m freestyle heat in Olympic record time
Another day, another record broken for Katie Ledecky.
The 19-year-old American's Olympic legend continues to grow with every stroke she takes at the Rio Games. Not only did Ledecky swim her 800-meter freestyle heat on Thursday morning in Olympic record time of 8:12.86, she smoked the rest of the competition.
Yep, that's a near-seven second lead over the rest of the field:
This puts Ledecky in prime position to win her fourth gold — and fifth medal overall — at the Rio Summer Games with the 800-meter freestyle final on Friday. She's already struck gold in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle and the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, and has a silver from the 4x100-meter freestyle relay.
