Khoroshilov holds slim lead in WCup slalom after 1st run
SANTA CATERINA VALFURVA, Italy (AP) Alexander Khoroshilov edged the pre-race favorites to lead a men's World Cup slalom after the first run on Wednesday.
The Russian timed 58.33 seconds on the Deborah Compagnoni course to lead Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway by 0.07 and Marcel Hirscher of Austria by 0.10. Kristoffersen and Hirscher finished 1-2 in both previous slaloms this season.
Khoroshilov was eyeing his second career victory after winning in Schladming, Austria, a year ago.
Alexis Pinturault of France was 0.46 behind in fourth while world slalom champion Jean-Baptiste Grange had 1.55 to make up in the second run.
American skier David Chodounsky, who was third in the discipline standings, failed to finish his run.
The race was moved from Zagreb because of a lack of snow.
