Nico Walther leads German 1-2 at 4-man bobsled World Cup

KOENIGSSEE, Germany (AP) Nico Walther of Germany defeated world champion Maximilian Arndt to claim his first four-man bobsled World Cup of the season on Sunday.

Pushed by Gregor Bermbach, Marko Huebenbecker and Eric Franke, Walther was quickest in both runs, clocking 48.83 and 48.74 seconds to beat compatriot Arndt by 0.18 with a combined time of 1:37.57.

Arndt, pushed by Kevin Kuske, Martin Putze and Kevin Korona, posted runs of 48.89 and 48.86 for a combined time of 1:37.75 and his second consecutive second-place finish.

Rico Peter, Thomas Amrhein, Janne Bror van der Zijde and Simon Friedli of Switzerland were 0.38 behind in third, followed by Francesco Friedrich, Alexander Roediger, Jannis Baecker and Thorsten Margis of Germany, 0.44 behind.

Friedrich, the two-man world champion, won the first two races. He leads the standings after three races on 642 points, ahead of Walther on 635 and Arndt on 620.
