Rio gold medalist Aly Raisman says she'll go for her third Olympics in 2020
Even as she's still basking in the glow of her fantastic Rio 2016 showing, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman already has her sights sets on Tokyo 2020.
The six-time Olympic medalist told Ellen Degeneres that she is already planning to compete at the next Summer Games in Japan in four years.
"That's the goal," Raisman told Degeneres on her show, explaining that she plans to take a year off, like she did after London in 2012, before starting to train in earnest again to make her third Olympics.
"I'm really excited. I mean, I thought I was in the best shape of my life in 2012 — I was even better now, so I'm excited to see what will happen in 2020," the 22-year-old Raisman said. "Get better with age."
Raisman's Final Five teammate and four-time gold medalist Simone Biles is also taking a break from gymnastics, though it is unclear whether or not she will return to competition.
If she does make the women's team in 2020, Raisman, who left Rio with a gold in team competition and two silvers in the all-around and floor exercise, has a chance to surpass Shannon Miller's seven career medals as the most for an U.S. Olympic gymnast.
Though what this will do to her parents, Lynn and Rick — known for stress-watching Raisman's routines ...
... remains to be seen.
