The Kansas City Royals are one step closer to getting a core member of their lineup back.

The team announced on Saturday that left fielder Alex Gordon will begin an injury rehabilitation assignment tomorrow with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The Naturals will be hosting Arkansas in a 2:05 game at Arvest Park in Springdale.

Gordon has been sidelined since suffering a right scaphoid fracture on May 22 in a foul territory collision with third baseman Mike Moustakas. Moustakas suffered a torn ACL in the collision. He has since had surgery and is out for the remainder of the 2016 season.

The 32-year-old Gordon, a four-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner, was hitting .211 in 42 games at the time the injury occurred. No timetable has been set as to the length of his injury rehab assignment.
