Angels aren't ruling out pursuit of Heyward

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:03 a.m. ET

The Los Angeles Angels have the American League’s 2015 Gold Glove Award winner in right field.

How about the National League recipient, too?

The Angels aren’t ruling out a pursuit of free agent Jason Heyward, sources tell Ken Rosenthal and me. And if the Angels sign Heyward, they’d likely move Kole Calhoun from right field to left.

It’s important to note the Angels are only in the preliminary stages of their search for an everyday outfielder. But Heyward is among the many possibilities for new general manager Billy Eppler.

An outfield of Calhoun, Mike Trout, and Heyward would rank among the game’s best — offensively and defensively. Frankly, the same would be true if the Angels keep Calhoun in right field and sign Yoenis Cespedes to start in left.
