Merry Christmas in June?

Except for the sunny skies and 75-degree temperatures, it felt like a happy holiday at Angel Stadium, where the Angels' game against the Minnesota Twins had a definite yuletide feeling Wednesday night.

The Angels celebrated "1/2 Way to Christmas," marking the midway point in the year until Dec. 25. There were reindeer outside the entrance to the ballpark, with wreaths and holly decorating the walls inside. Christmas music was played pregame, and Santa Claus watched batting practice next to Angels hitting coach Don Baylor.

In an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gather of people wearing Santa hats, fans were given Santa hats with the Angels logo on them as they entered the ballpark.

To break the record of 872 Santa hats, fans were prompted to put on their hats at the start of the fifth inning and wear them for five consecutive minutes. An official from the Guinness World Records verified the new record.

Fans seemed to have no trouble getting into the spirit.

"I have three boys, six and under, and we heard about it from my cousin, who is a huge, diehard Angels fan," said Sarah Belsey of Orange. "So that's why we came out, and she thought the kids would like it, which we do."

Darryl Nicholson, vacationing from Mansfield, Texas, said, "This awesome, I saw a little bit of the fake snow going up there. Yes, I fed the reindeer. I was kind of scared to do that, first experience feeding a reindeer. It was interesting."
