Angels trade 1B CJ Cron to Tampa Bay Rays

The Angels made a big trade on Saturday.

Infielder C.J. Cron, a Fullerton native, was dealt to Tampa Bay in exchange for a player to be named later, Angels GM Billy Eppler said.

Cron, 28, appeared in 100 games for the Angels in 2017 and batted .248 with 14 doubles, one triple, 16 home runs and 56 RBI. He matched his career-high in home runs and also posted a career-best .995 fielding percentage in 97 games at first base (4 errors in 810 total chances).

The Angels drafted Cron in the first round (17th overall) in the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of Utah. In four seasons with the team, he has batted .262 with 68 doubles, five triples, 59 home runs and 213 RBI.
