Badgers predictions: Game 8 vs. Nebraska
Wisconsin gets ready to face yet another top-10 opponent this Saturday night as it hosts Nebraska.
Unlike the previous four times (vs. LSU in Green Bay, at Michigan State, at Michigan, vs. Ohio State), however, most people think the Badgers will win. This despite Wisconsin being ranked lower in the polls than the Cornhuskers.
We'll find out soon enough if the prognosticators were correct this time.
Here are this week's predictions from around the web and Twitter:
FOXSports.com's Bruce Feldman: Wisconsin 23, Nebraska 20. "Sorry, Badger fans. I'm probably jinxing you by hopping on your bandwagon now. Even without Jack Cichy, I feel like Wisconsin is good enough on D to derail the Huskers and I'm still not sure NU and Tommy Armstrong can play a clean enough game to win in a tough road environment."
FOXSports.com's Stewart Mandel: Wisconsin 34, Nebraska 24. "Wisconsin's defensive injuries are piling up, but so far the unit has shown no signs of cracking. The Badgers get to Huskers QB Tommy Armstrong and hand the Huskers their first defeat."
The Associated Press' Ralph D. Russo: Nebraska 23, Wisconsin 20.
Both Big Ten Network analysts are picking Wisconsin to win. Tom Dienhart sees it Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 10 while Brent Yarina has it Wisconsin 23, Nebrsaka 16.
Jeff Bartl of Campus Insiders: Wisconsin 20, Nebraska 10. "Get ready for another Big Ten defensive slog. The Huskers will try surprise Wisconsin with some big plays, but the Badgers will be ready. Houston and Hornibrook each throw a touchdown pass as they help deal Nebraska its first defeat."
In this video, both Lincoln Journal Star reporters pick Wisconsin to win. Brian Christopherson says it will be 24-19 while Steve Sipple has it 21-17.
Omaha World-Leader staff: Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 20.
All four Athlon Sports analysts have Wisconsin winning.
Pete Fiutak of Collegefootballnews.com: Wisconsin 26, Nebraska 16. "Wisconsin will get the win after the defense clamps down in the second half, but both teams will run the clock and each offense should be relatively error free."
All seven analysts at USAToday.com pick Wisconsin to win.
Steve Lassan of Athlon Sports: Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 20. "Establishing the run is critical for both offenses, while the two quarterbacks -- Tommy Armstrong and Alex Hornibrook -- will be counted upon to make timely plays in the passing game. Armstrong is doing a better job of managing the game and limiting mistakes this year, but Wisconsin's defense is the best unit he will face so far in 2016. A tight game should be expected. However, the Badgers are more battle tested, have the home-field advantage and the better defense."
The Whatifsports.com simulation has an average score of Wisconsin 28.2, Nebraska 23.9 with the Badgers winning 68.3 percent of the time.
Rich Cirminiello of Campus Insiders: Wisconsin 26, Nebraska 16. "Wisconsin will clamp down on a Husker offense that's been average the past month. And Paul Chryst's offense will get just enough from Corey Clement and Jazz Peavy to remain alive in the West."
The Oklahoman's Berry Tramel: Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 20.
Brian Pedersen of Bleacher Report: Wisconsin 23, Nebraska 20. "Another week, another Top 10 opponent for Wisconsin. The Badgers lost the last two but looked impressive in those seven-point games at Michigan and in overtime against Ohio State. Nebraska's most impressive win came against Wyoming, which is not the best preparation for this challenge."
All seven CBSSports.com analysts are picking Wisconsin to win.
All four analysts at The Sporting News are taking Wisconsin over Nebraska.
Bill Connelly of SB Nation: His S&P+ projection has it Wisconsin 28.6, Nebraska 20.6, giving the Badgers a 67.8 percent chance of winning.
Six of seven analysts at SI.com are predicting a Wisconsin victory.
Josh Liskiewitz of Pro Football Focus: Wisconsin 17, Nebraska 13.
All five of the ESPN.com Big Ten contributors picked Wisconsin to win.
Four of the five writers at MLive.com think Wisconsin will win.
Sean Martin of the Albany Times-Union: Wisconsin 19, Nebraska 14.
Jimmy Burch of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Wisconsin 28, Nebraska 24.
Jeff Taviano of The (Delaware) News Journal: Nebraska 24, Wisconsin 21.
All three analysts at FootballScoop.com went with Wisconsin as the winner.
The Chicago Tribune's Teddy Greenstein picks Wisconsin, even with an 8-point spread (at least in the video).
