Badgers RB Clement suffers cut on hand

Wisconsin running back Corey Clement suffered a cut on his hand following a verbal dispute at his apartment building which then escalated.

According to a statement released by the university's football team, Clement was returning to his off-campus residence Sunday when he witnessed a dispute between a building security guard and "a group of individuals." Clement then "became engaged in the dispute" and both he and the guard were attacked, with Clement suffering the injury.

The running back showed up at practice Wednesday with a wrap on his hand and later Madison radio station 1670-AM had reported Clement was bitten by a roommate's pit bull.

Clement, a junior who was expected to fill the role of the departed Melvin Gordon, has played in only two games this season due to a sports hernia injury -- the opener against Alabama and then two weeks ago, when he rushed for 115 yards vs. Rutgers. He sat out last week's game against Maryland due to soreness and didn't practice Wednesday as a regularly scheduled day of rest.

The No. 23 Badgers are off this week and host No. 24 Northwestern next Saturday. There is no indication yet whether Clement will play or not against the Wildcats.

Asked if Clement faced any team-related discipline, a team spokesman said it was premature to answer because of an ongoing police investigation.
