There’s taking down the top team in the country, and then there’s what the Wisconsin Badgers did to Notre Dame on Sunday.

Wisconsin dominated the top-ranked Irish from start to finish, snapping Notre Dame’s school-record 16-game win streak and perfect 13-0 record in the Big Ten with a 5-0 victory at the United Center.

Freshman defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk set the tone in the first period with a beautiful coast-to-coast goal to start the night’s scoring.

Trent Frederic doubled Wisconsin’s lead with a short-handed goal on a breakaway in the second period, and junior forward Seamus Malone tallied his ninth goal of the season for a 3-0 Badgers lead heading into the second intermission.

Wisconsin held off Notre Dame in the third period, and Linus Weissbach and Sean Dhooghe put icing on the cake with goals in the final minute.

But the real star of the game was sophomore goaltender Jack Berry, who stopped 40 Irish shots between the pipes to record his second shutout of the season.

"I thought tonight we needed to win and we needed a big performance," Berry said. "We got it."

The Badgers (12-12-3, 6-8-2) moved up to a tie for fifth place in the Big Ten after the win.
