Badgers will repeat Friday night lights in 2018

The Wisconsin Badgers opened the 2017 season on a Friday night against Utah State. Things must have gone well, because the Badgers are in for a repeat in 2018.

The Big Ten announced five games which will be played on Fridays next season and included in the handful is Wisconsin's season-opening game vs. Western Kentucky.

The Badgers' game against the Hilltoppers had been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1, but now will be played Friday, Aug. 31.

Wisconsin -- and athletic director Barry Alvarez -- came under fire from some fans, who feel Fridays should be reserved for high school football. In an interview with FOX Sports Wisconsin last November, Alvarez said he felt Fridays were OK in some circumstances, such as Labor Day weekend.

The UW-Utah State game was played during the holiday weekend as will the 2018 matchup against the Hilltoppers.

The Badgers have played four games this season and the opener against the Aggies had the lowest attendance (75,324). Will we have a repeat of that again in 2018?

Either way, it appears the Big Ten and Alvarez weren't swayed by the high school crowd.
