Ball State athletic director Sandy announces retirement plan

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) Ball State athletic director Mark Sandy says he will retire at the end of June.

Sandy made the announcement Monday, almost exactly three years after he took the job.

He joined the Cardinals after spending the previous 10 years as the AD at Eastern Kentucky. During his tenure, eight teams won Mid-American Conference titles or division championships.

Sandy also presided over three facility upgrades and a fourth is currently underway.

He started his career as a high school math and history teacher who coached baseball and basketball. He served as an assistant basketball coach at the University of Evansville, Wake Forest and Virginia Military Institute. He also worked as associate athletic director at Miami (Ohio) and senior associate athletic director at Richmond before going to Eastern Kentucky.
