Berrios’ solid start helps Twins top Red Sox 4-1
Jose Berrios held Boston to one run over 4 2/3 innings, and the Minnesota Twins topped the Red Sox 4-1 on Monday afternoon to clinch the 2019 Chairman’s Cup.
Boston managed to get a run on the board in the first inning on J.D. Martinez’s RBI single, but Berrios settled down after that. The right-hander walked three hitters and fanned four.
Outfielder Eddie Rosario put the Twins on the scoreboard with a two-run blast in the first inning. In the fifth inning, Jorge Polanco brought Byron Buxton home with an RBI single, and Nelson Cruz plated Minnesota’s fourth run of the day on a double.
Reliever Ryne Harper, who has yet to allow a single run in spring training, picked up his second save after a scoreless ninth inning.
With the win, the Twins clinched the 2019 Chairman’s Cup, an annual spring-training series between two organizations with facilities just a few miles apart in Fort Myers, Fla.
Minnesota owns 4-2 advantage over Boston in the series with one game to play in the spring rivalry.
