Big 12 logo ready for its official debut

The Big 12 first unveiled its redesigned logo last July, but the new look is officially instituted on Tuesday.

The league's offices got ahead of the game with some new signage outside, but as of Tuesday, they'll be everywhere.

Like the previous logo, each team is able to customize it to school colors. You'll see those on uniforms and playing fields and courts very soon.

The league explored changing its name in 2011, but decided the brand strength was too strong to try and rebuild, like the American Athletic Conference had to do after it broke away from the Big East.

The logo retained the Roman numerals that have been a point of contention in the past. Any use of a conference name other than "Big 12" is technically incorrect.

The logo was designed by the Austin-based marketing firm, GSD&M.
