Big 12 This Week: Huge clash between Oklahoma & Baylor in Waco
GAME OF THE WEEK: No. 12 Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1 Big 12, No. 15 CFP) at No. 4 Baylor (8-0, 5-0, No. 6 CFP). A prime-time game along the banks of the Brazos River with Big 12 and playoff implications. The two-time defending Big 12 champion Bears have an FBS-best 20-game home winning streak and along with No. 5 Oklahoma State are the Big 12's remaining undefeated teams. Oklahoma has scored at least 50 points in each game of its four-game winning streak since losing to Texas. The Sooners could snap its two-year Big 12 title drought that is its longest under coach Bob Stoops, and possibly get into the playoff, with a season-ending sweep of Baylor, No. 13 TCU and No. 5 Oklahoma State. First up are the Bears, who have beaten Oklahoma by an average margin of 43 points the last two years.
BEST MATCHUP (Outside the top four): Kansas State (3-5, 0-5) at Texas Tech (5-5, 2-5). Away from the chase for the league title and a possible playoff spot, the Wildcats and Red Raiders are among the Big 12 teams trying to get bowl eligible. The Wildcats are 0-5 in the Big 12, three of those losses by seven points or less. Texas Tech is coming off a five-point loss to West Virginia after a wild game against Oklahoma State.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: West Virginia is sixth nationally in passes intercepted (14). ... Texas sophomore running back D'Onta Foreman had 157 yards rushing and three TDs on 12 carries last week against Kansas, his third 100-yard rushing game this season. ... Baylor has won 10 consecutive Big 12 games, a school record. ... TCU has won 11 home games in a row, though its school-record 16-game winning streak ended with a loss at Oklahoma State.
LONG SHOT: Kansas (0-9, 0-6) had a 10-point lead in the third quarter at home against TCU last year before losing 34-30. But the Jayhawks are 45-point underdogs going to Fort Worth, where the Horned Frogs (8-1, 5-1) are looking to bounce back from their first loss to stay in contention for their second consecutive Big 12 title.
IMPACT PLAYER: Oklahoma State sophomore receiver James Washington has had three consecutive 100-yard games. He had five catches for 184 yards and three touchdowns last Saturday as the Cowboys stayed undefeated with their win over TCU. The Cowboys (9-0, 6-0, No. 8 CFP) play at Iowa State (3-6, 2-4), which has allowed 23 TD passes this season.
