Blue Jackets sign goaltender Forsberg to extension
COLUMBUS, OH -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Anton Forsberg to a one-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract extension through the 2016-17 season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
Forsberg, 23, led the American Hockey League's Lake Erie Monsters to a 2016 Calder Cup championship after posting a 9-0-0 record with a playoff-best 1.34 goals-against average, .949 save percentage and two shutouts in 10 contests. He made 23 saves in a 1-0 Cup-clinching overtime win over the Hershey Bears in Game Four on June 11.
The Härnösand, Sweden native went 23-10-5 with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in 41 regular season games with Lake Erie, setting career highs in games played, wins, minutes (2,302) and saves (972). He finished sixth-T in the AHL in goals-against average and 10th in victories. He also posted a 1-3-0 record with a 3.03 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in four regular season games with the Blue Jackets in 2015-16. In relief of Curtis McElhinney, he recorded six saves in overtime and stopped two-of-three shootout attempts to secure his first NHL win on January 2 vs. Washington.
The club's sixth pick, 188th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft, Forsberg is 1-7-0 with a 4.01 goals against average and .882 save percentage in nine career NHL games with the Blue Jackets. He has also posted a 46-18-6 record with a 2.17 goals-against average, .921 save percentage and five shutouts in 75 career AHL games.
