Blues' Ott placed on IR, to have hamstring surgery next week
ST. LOUIS -- Forward Steve Ott will be out for at least three months after suffering a gruesome-looking injury Saturday night against the Maple Leafs, the St. Louis Blues announced Sunday.
Ott will undergo surgery next week after injuring his hamstrings with about 32 seconds to play in the first period. Ott was near center ice when his skate caught on the skate of Toronto defenseman Dion Phaneuf and he slid skate-first into the boards with his legs spread apart like he was doing the splits. He was able to get off the ice but had to be supported by two people as he limped slowly to the locker room from the bench.
The 33-year-old winger has been placed on injured reserve and will be reevaluated in three months.
Ott, one of the team's tougher players, has dressed in 21 games for the Blues this season, posting two assists and 34 penalty minutes.
