ST. LOUIS -- After dealing their most offensively productive defenseman, Kevin Shattenkirk, to the Washington Capitals before the trade deadline, the Blues have called in some reinforcement to help fill the void he left.

On Wednesday, the Blues recalled defenseman Jordan Schmaltz from the Chicago Wolves, the team's AHL affiliate.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman has played in 42 games for the Wolves this season. Schmaltz, 23, has scored three goals and tallied 22 assists in those games.

Schmaltz was drafted by the Blues in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
