Blues shutout ace Elliott named NHL's Second Star of the week

Published Mar. 28, 2016 12:42 p.m. ET

How good of a week did Brian Elliott have? So good that even though only two of his three straight shutouts occurred last week, he still was honored by the NHL as the league's Second Star.

Minnesota's Zach Parise and Pittsburgh's Phil Kessel were named First Star and Third Star, respectively.

Elliott stopped all 52 shots he faced over two appearances to help the Blues (45-22-9, 99 points) clinch their fifth straight playoff berth.

He made 37 saves in a 1-0 win over the San Jose Sharks on March 22, followed by 15 saves in a 4-0 victory against the Vancouver Canucks on March 25.  In doing so, Elliott matched a career high with his third consecutive personal shutout -- a feat he last achieved from Apr. 7-11, 2013. Jake Allen's shutout of the league-leading Washington Capitals on Saturday was the Blues' fourth consecutive shutout, a franchise-best streak they take into Tuesday's matchup with the Colorado Avalanche.

Elliott, 30, is 20-7-6 with four shutouts in 37 outings this season. He leads the NHL with a 1.95 goals-against average and .934 save percentage in 2015-16.
