Bobrovsky to represent Russia at World Cup of Hockey
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky is among the first 16 players selected to represent Team Russia at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation announced today. The international tournament will be held from September 17 to October 1, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Bobrovsky, 27, has helped Russia capture medals at the 2014 (gold) and 2015 IIHF World Championships (silver) as well as the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships (bronze). He has also represented the country at the 2014 Olympic Games held in Sochi, Russia.
The Novokuznetsk, Russia native is 11-13-1 with a 2.65 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in 27 games with the Jackets this season. He has gone 136-84-25 with a 2.52 goals against average, .918 save percentage and 25 shutouts in 257 career games with the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers. He has compiled a 94-61-14 record with 2.43 goals against average, .921 save percentage and 25 shutouts in 174 career games with the Jackets since being acquired from the Flyers on June 22, 2012.
Eight teams -- Team Canada, Team Czech Republic, Team Finland, Team Russia, Team Sweden, Team USA, Team Europe and Team North America -- will compete in the two-week tournament, featuring more than 150 of the best players in the NHL. All tournament games will be played at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, home of the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs.
All eight teams competing in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey are announcing their rosters of at least 16 players today.
