Bosa misses another practice, looks doubtful for opener

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa didn't participate in practice Wednesday because of what appears to be an injury to his left leg.

San Diego faces the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and all indications are that Bosa, the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft, won't play.

"Only time will tell because I'm not going to tell you," coach Mike McCoy said.

When asked if Bosa was a candidate for injured reserve, McCoy said: "No, it's not an IR deal."

Bosa missed the preseason during a 31-day holdout because of a contract dispute. He signed on Aug. 29, took part in a light practice the following day and worked briefly before the Chargers' exhibition game against the 49ers on Thursday. He was unavailable for Monday's practice, instead watching it with his left leg wrapped.

Since Bosa has a roster exemption which expires after Sunday's game, the Chargers aren't required to reveal Bosa's health status.

Bosa, a former Ohio State star, has yet to work in pads with the Chargers.

"He'll catch up," defensive tackle Brandon Mebane said. "It's a long season and he has time to do that."

Mebane said Bosa has been attentive during team meetings.

"He's a good guy," Mebane said. "He just sits there and soaks it all up."
