Bowe leads American 1-2 in speedskating World Cup race
INZELL, Germany (AP) Brittany Bowe beat Heather Richardson-Bergsma for an American 1-2 in the women's 1,000-meters at a speedskating World Cup event on Saturday.
Bowe clocked a course record 1 minute, 14.01 to beat her teammate by 0.51 seconds.
Lee Sang-hwa of South Korea was third, 1.26 seconds behind.
Bowe leads the standings by 30 points from Richardson-Bergsma after three events.
Japan won the women's pursuit ahead of the Netherlands and Russia.
Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands won the men's 1,000-meters, clocking 1: 08.31 to beat Denis Yuskov of Russia by 0.24 seconds and Dutch teammate Kai Verbij by 0.29.
Joey Mantia of the United States was fourth, 0.50 behind.
Nuis leads the standings with 250 points from three races, 52 ahead of compatriot Gerben Jorritsma, who could only manage 10th place.
Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands won the men's 5,000 in 6:17.35, ahead of Sverre Lunde Pedersen of Norway, 2.17 back.
Another Dutch skater, Arjan Stroetinga, was third, 4.31 behind.
