Braves lent team bus to Marlins for players to visit with Jose Fernandez's family
In the aftermath of Jose Fernandez’s tragic death early Sunday morning, the baseball world mourned and reflected on the life of the Marlins superstar’s inspirational life’s story.
Other parts of Major League Baseball, including the Atlanta Braves, jumped into action.
The Braves, who were in Miami to play the Marlins at the time of Fernandez’s fatal boating accident, lent a team bus to their National League East rivals on Sunday so that Marlins players could travel to visit with their teammates’ family, according Marlins president David Samson.
Samson said he himself promised Fernandez’s mother and grandmother, to whom he was incredibly close throughout his life, “We won't let his light burn out."
The Marlins took the field on Monday night for the first time since Fernandez’s death, each player wearing No. 16. Then the inspiration and emotion arrived — and it overflowed.
The @braves lent a team bus to the @Marlins so players could go spend time with Jose Fernandez's family, per David Samson.
