Braves put Mike Foltynewicz on DL with bone spur in elbow
With a bone spur causing discomfort in his right elbow, the Braves placed pitcher Mike Foltynewicz on the 15-day disabled list Friday night.
The right-hander was scheduled to start opposite Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw on Saturday, but instead Atlanta will turn to veteran Bud Norris.
"It's uneasy for me right now," Foltynewicz told reporters Friday. "I don't feel comfortable going out there and throwing seven innings and trying to throw 100 pitches. But this is my elbow. So I'm going to get some treatment and then get back on the right path and pitch."
An MRI exam and CT scan performed in Atlanta on Thursday showed no structural damage to Foltynewicz's elbow, and there had been hope that he would still start Saturday. But the Braves instead decided to be cautious.
"He did all the tests (Thursday), and there's some soreness in there," said interim manager Brian Snitker. "But there's nothing that is structurally wrong. He's just a little sore. We just want to get it right. I don't really see it being anything longer than the two weeks."
The 24-year-old was coming off back-to-back impressive outings, giving up a combined two earned runs in 11 2/3 against the Brewers on May 25 and the Giants on May 30. On the season he is 2-2 with a 3.51 ERA, 28 strikeouts and eight walks in 33 1/3 innings.
