Brewers send starting pitcher Burnes to Triple-A San Antonio

Struggling starting pitcher Corbin Burnes was sent to Triple-A San Antonio on Friday as the Brewers did a little roster shuffling.

Reliever Alex Wilson returned from the paternity list and left-handed reliever Donnie Hart was recalled from Triple-A. Reliever Jake Petricka was also optioned to San Antonio.

With Burnes being sent down, Milwaukee is without two-fifths of its original starting rotation, as Freddy Peralta was placed on the injured list earlier in the week. In four starts this year, Burnes, who pitched out of the bullpen for the Brewers in 2018, had allowed 30 hits, including 11 home runs, in 17 2/3 innings, although he did have 24 strikeouts. But the longballs and an ERA of 10.70 and 2.151 WHIP necessitated a change.

Petricka has made four appearances for the Brewers, allowing three hits and two runs in four innings. He had been sent down earlier in the week but recalled when Wilson left the team for the birth of his fourth child.

Hart, who was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on April 4, had pitched in three innings over six games for San Antonio. In three years with Baltimore, from 2016-18, Hart had a 3.43 ERA and 1.500 WHIP in 81 1/3 innings.
