Brewers swiping bases like few others

The Milwaukee Brewers have been running a lot this season. The Brewers lead the majors with 108 stolen bases -- which is 12 more than anyone else. San Diego has 96 and only two other teams in the majors have 80 or more -- Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

Last year, Cincinnati led MLB with 134 steals. Milwaukee had 84 SBs in 2015. The last time the Brewers had this many steals in a season was 2014 when they had 142, thanks mainly two three players -- Jean Segura (44 steals), Carlos Gomez (40) and Nori Aoki (20).

Jonathan Villar leads the way this year for Milwaukee with 40 steals while Hernan Perez has 19. Lately, t though, it has been a team effort on the basepaths.

In the last 15 games, the Brewers have stolen 29 bases, which is tied for the fifth-most over that span in in the last 10 seasons.

Milwaukee has gotten those 29 steals from eight players: Keon Broxton (1), Ryan Braun (5), Jake Elmore (2), Scooter Gennett (3), Jonathan Lucroy (1), Perez (9), Villar (7) and Andy Wilkins (1). Those represent the only steals this year for Elmore and Wilkins while Braun has 12 steals on the season and Gennett 7.

To top it off, the Brewers have been caught stealing just twice over that same time period with Villar and Elmore being the victims.

Broxton and Wilkins are two of the rookies on Milwaukee's current roster. According to STATS LLC, the Brewers are tied with San Diego with the most rookies -- nine. However, it looks like they are including Jacob Barnes, who is on the disabled list.

The players who still have rookie status on Milwaukee's 25-man roster are: Orlando Arcia, Broxton, Zach Davies, Ramon Flores, Junior Guerra, Jhan Martinez, Manny Pina and Wilkins. Others who have played for the Brewers this season who are still considered rookies are Barnes, Ariel Pena, Yaidel Rivera and Colin Walsh. As mentioned, Barnes is on the DL, Pena is on the DL at Colorado Springs, where Rivera is currently playing. Walsh was returned to Oakland and is currently with their Triple-A team in Nashville.

Other notes:

-- Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado has a career-long seven-game hitting streak in which he is batting .391 with a 1.003 OPS.

-- Arizona has been outhit 65-34 over their last four games, which is tied for the worst hit differential of any National League team over a four-game span in the last 100 years, tying the 1936 Cardinals and 1923 Phillies.

-- Arizona's Yasmany Tomas has four mult-homer games this season. Only Mark Trumbo of Baltimore has had as many. Milwaukee's Chris Carter is one of four players to have four muti-homer games.

-- Jake Lamb currently has the seventh-best slugging percentage by a third baseman who is 25 years old or younger in MLB history at .591. The Milwaukee Braves' Eddie Mathews has three of the top six.
