Brewers trade Cooper to Yankees for reliever Webb

The Milwaukee Brewers added a left-handed pitcher Thursday who could potentially boost their ailing bullpen, acquiring reliever Tyler Webb from the New York Yankees for Triple-A first baseman Garrett Cooper.

The Brewers have yet to announce whether Webb will report to Milwaukee or their Triple-A affiliate.

Webb made his major-league debut last month and has appeared in seven games for the Yankees, including facing the Brewers twice last week, working six innings and allowing three earned runs on three hits.

A 10th-round pick in the 2013 amateur draft, Webb turns 27 next week and has had some success in Triple-A, where he has a 3.24 ERA and a 1.080 WHIP through 33 1/3 innings this season. In 2015, he pitched in 72 2/3 innings for New York's affiliate in Scranton, posting a 3.59 ERA, 1.239 WHIP and 10.2 K/9.

Cooper, who started for the Pacific Coast League in Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star Game, is hitting .366/.428/.652 for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in his second season at the Triple-A level, and was selected by the Brewers in the sixth round of the 2013 draft. He has never appeared in the majors, but the Yankees have a pressing need at first base.

Milwaukee has had an opening on its 25-man roster since Junior Guerra was placed on the disabled list on July 9.
