Bruins win 2016-2017 Crosstown Cup thanks to UCLA baseball's road sweep of USC
Los Angeles is blue and gold for another year, as the UCLA Bruins clinched the 2016-2017 Crosstown Cup over rivals USC.
An annual award given to the school with the most head-to-head all-sports victories, the Crosstown Cup was secured by the Bruins following UCLA baseball's road sweep of the Trojans in early May. The sweep gave UCLA a 105-85 advantage over USC and the requisite 100 points needed to clinch the cup.
“I’m so proud of the hard work and dedication it took from our student-athletes and coaches to help us win this year’s Crosstown Cup,” said UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero. “In what has become one of the most storied rivalries in collegiate athletics, UCLA facing USC always seems to bring out the best in both teams, particularly from a competitive standpoint. For our program to have secured its second Crosstown Cup in the last three years is a terrific accomplishment.”

Crosstown Cup points are determined by the 19 sports USC and UCLA both field teams in. Each sport is awarded 10 points, all of which go to the winner of the year's head-to-head competitions and a split in the instance of a tie in victories. While points for individual sports without head-to-head competition are based on the highest finisher in PAC-12 play.
UCLA earned maximum points in women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s cross country, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s volleyball, women’s golf, men’s track & field and baseball. Five points were earned by women’s tennis, women’s water polo and men’s tennis.
