Buccaneers play down training camp practice scuffle
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers shrugged off a scuffle between two players during practice, calling it a typical training camp dustup.
No punches were thrown when offensive tackle Demar Dotson and defensive end George Johnson tussled briefly after getting tangled up on a 9-on-7 running drill on Tuesday.
"George was doing what he does and tempers started to get a little flared up," Dotson said. "We talked about it afterward. Hopefully, there are no hard feelings."
Order was restored quickly.
"We're just out here competing," rookie quarterback Jameis Winston said. "Obviously, it was quick, and we got back into things and started playing football."
Bucs coach Lovie Smith also played down the scuffle.
"There's not much to say about it. It's training camp," Smith said. "Not much more than a 9-on-7 as far as I'm concerned."
